I moved from CA to NC on 1/1/2022.  I have been a full time resident of NC since 1/1.  I had my employer change my address effective the 1/1.  We are paid every 2 weeks,  one week behind.  The first paycheck I received in January reflected 1 week of California pay and taxes.    I will file a NC tax return since I was a resident of NC for all of 2022.  Do I also need to file a CA non-resident return and report the one week of income and tax?   If asked how many days did I live in CA the answer would be 0.

Thank you for any assistance.

Q. Do I also need to file a CA non-resident return and report the one week of income and tax?

A.  Yes.  That is considered CA source income. You will file as a non resident.

Q.    If asked how many days did I live in CA the answer would be 0.

A. Yes, if asked. You may not be.

You will report all your income on the NC resident return (including the first paycheck with the CA source income).  NC will give you a credit for all or some of the tax paid to CA.
