What are the rules for residency when you work remotely?  Moved our belongings & banking to another state before June but Wisconsin home did not sell until late in year.  Did have to make trips back to maintain home until it sold. When was I no longer a Wisconsin resident?  Wisconsin seems as aggressive as NY so want to get this correct.

You were a part year resident of both states. Your residency changed when you physically moved (started spending more time there than in WS), not just belongings,  to the new state.

"so want to get this correct".  That's going to be subject to interpretation. It also depends on which south state you moved to. If it's a no tax state (TX, FL, TN), you don't get to say it all comes out even.  The most stringent interpretation would be the last night you stayed in the WS house.

Wisconsin Form 1NPR includes a "Legal Residence Questionnaire". See page 60 of the Form 1NPR instruction booklet here: https://www.revenue.wi.gov/TaxForms2023/2023-Form1NPR-Inst.pdf
