Moved to different state but employer did not update

Hello,

my wife and I moved in February 2020 from VA to WV, but still work in VA.

My wife's employer forgot to update her W2 form address to our new address in WV instead it shows our previous address in VA on her 2020 W2 form. So she had VA state taxes withheld but no WV. What do we have to do now? How do we file our taxes on Turbotax? Does she need an updated W2 form?

VA and WV have tax reciprocity for wages and salaries.  This means that, for taxpayers who live in one of the two states and work in the other, their W-2 wages and salaries are taxed only in their state of residence.

If she hasn't already done so, your wife should file Virginia Form VA-4 with her employer, indicating that she is exempt from VA withholding, and she should request that her employer withhold WV taxes only.

For tax year 2020, you will file a part-year resident tax return in both VA and WV.  Your income prior to the move is entirely taxable by VA; your income after the move is entirely taxable by WV.  You will probably owe taxes to WV, but you will receive a refund of the excess VA withholding.

No.  An incorrect address on your W-2 will not affect your taxes.  Just be sure you enter your current mailing address in the My Info section of TurboTax.
