My daughter has three income tax.  She live in Colorado for move that 7 months  and has a W2 form Colorado, then work in Washington DC for 1.5 months and has W2, then moved to New York  Brooklyn for 3.5 and has a W2 working in New York city.  How do I file for each state? What residency should I consider for each state?

She will be a part-year resident in Colorado,  DC, and NY.

Here's some more information: How do I file a part-year state return?

It is unlikely you can do all states as part-year Residents.

IF the move/work in NY is intended to be permanent for at least 6 mos.

Then...on the My Info page....she should indicate she "moved", from CO to NY on the date she arrived in NY to work.

Then indicate she also worked in DC.

Thus, there will be part-year CO and NY tax returns to fill out, along with a DC non-resident tax return for the short time she worked in DC.

Yep...it will be messy.
