Question

My company has been sending taxes to CA all year. I do not live in CA. I field non-resident but I didn't get that money back. How do I get the money back from CA?

I do not live or work in CA. I work remotely as an independent contractor. My company is based in Chicago and I travel for work. I want to be able to retrieve the money that was wrongfully paid to CA. I'm not sure that non-resident income is correct as I did not work in CA either.

You should file a CA nonresident return to get back the taxes incorrectly withheld.  Just indicate on the return that no income was earned in CA.
