Question

My DC employer gave me (a MD resident) a W-2 with DC in section 15 for State. I'm supposed to pay MD. How do I fix this on my return?

If DC tax was withheld on your W-2 income, file a Non-Resident Return to DC.

As usual, file a Resident Return to Maryland reporting all of your income.  Maryland will give you Credit for Tax Paid to Another State.

If you had no DC taxes withheld on your W-2, you don't need to file anything to DC.
