My state of residence is California but i haven't lived there since 2017 and i pay mortgage on a house in Tennessee so do i have to put both those state taxes?

It depends on the type of income you received in each state. You are probably not required to file a Tennessee state return, Tennessee only taxes interest and dividend income, not wages, earnings, or other income. Therefore, Tennessee residents only file a tax return if their interest and dividend income exceeds $1,250 ($2,500 for joint filers). This is the Hall income tax. Whether or not you are required to file a California state return depends on your residency status and your income.
