If you had no Taxable State Income, you could receive all your State Tax refunded to you.

Review your state's filing form to see the calculations there.

@mglauner I am a military veteran who recently left new york. In the past, I have had a small refund, but this time I received all of it. Perhaps I inputted something wrong? I have a value on section 16 (state wages, tips, etc.) and 17 (state income tax). I've never had this issue before, but I don't want to make a mistake.

Thank you for your service.

Are you filing a Part-Year or Non-Resident Return for New York?

Do you have NY deductions or credits showing after Line 17 that reduced your tax to $0?

The best way to check is to compare your last year and this year returns side by side.

This link has info on why your State Refund is Different this Year

If your State Review doesn't show any errors, then perhaps you have not entered anything incorrectly.

Since we can't see your Tax Return in this forum, you could request Phone Support or a Live Review
