My wife lived in Illinois all of 2019, I lived in Illinois 6 months and Tennessee for 6 months, how should I file state taxes? She is not employed.

You should file your Illinois state returns as married filing separately since you lived in another state during 2019. The state of Illinois allows a married filing joint couple to file as married filing separate status on their Illinois state return. You will need to file a part-year resident return for Illinois. Please view the TurboTax FAQ for directions on doing so.

You are only required to file a Tennessee state return you earned more than $1,250 in interest and dividend income if during your period of residency The state doesn't have an income tax.
