2024 Desktop Efiled Federal and NJ Amended after both originals accepted, Federal amended was accepted; NJ rejected. Went back into program checked all NJ entries, program found no errors. Efiled again. Federal accepted again, NJ rejected again. Is only option to paper file NJ?

Some New Jersey amended returns can get rejected if the data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries. NJ-1040X, Balance of Tax amounts - Fields for As Originally Reported & Amended must both be blank or both be populated to have return be valid for efile.

Please review the reason for the reject. If necessary, make the appropriate change and re-submit this return electronically. However, if the reject continues, you may want to file this return via U.S. Mail. To file your state return, print it and mail to the appropriate taxing authority.

When in and populated field Balance of Tax with a zero. Although the State Retum has not been accepted yet, it has not been automatically rejected. So far so good
