NJ Returns Not Eligble For E-Filing

Hi I have a questions about a restriction on e-filing in New Jersey. I have a fairly standard tax situation with the exception that I moved from New Jersey to New York midway through the year.

I worked in New Jersey for the full year, but moved to New York City in April.

When filing, two things are prohibiting me from e-filing:

- "Part Year Resident returns where income was received from New Jersey sources while a nonresident of New Jersey are not eligible for electronic filing"

- "Returns with New Jersey income greater than income from everywhere are not eligible for electronic filing"

The first makes sense. I earned more money from April - December (the portion of non-resident income) than I did from January - March.

However, I am confused by the second. My NJ income is the same as my total income. Any thoughts on the cause of this?

if you were a part year resident and a non-resident with NJ income,

you must file two returns, NJ-1040 and NJ-1040NR.

since at least one must be mailed, you might as will mail them both, but in separate envelopes.

If you do them one at a time, you should be able to E-File the one.
