Hi,

I lived in NJ thru August of 2022 then sold and moved to Florida.

My husband is retired and lived in Florida for all of 2022 (no state income tax in NJ)

We file married filing jointly.

I need to file NJ state taxes for 2022 through 8/31/22 with only my income, deductions, etc.

How do I do that? I am using TT Premier live - onlne version.

Thanks

You will file a part-year resident state tax return for NJ. When you prepare your NJ non-resident tax return, you will be able to allocate the income the income that you made while you lived there. Make sure that you answer the questions in the Personal Info Section correctly regarding the states that you lived into ensure that you prepare accurate state returns. Follow the steps below to review the information:

  1.  Launch Turbo Tax and select Personal Info
  2. Personal info summary screen will pop up.
  3. Select Edit by your name.
  4. Ensure that you have the correct answers for your state of residence and if you lived in another state. If you selected that you lived in another state, a new section will appear asking for your previous state of residence. Select the other state you lived in.
  5. Scroll down to Other State Income and select Edit
  6. Check your answer for Did you make money in any other states? Answer the questions and select Continue.

Please review the TurboTax article How do I file a part-year state return? and How do I allocate (split) income for a part-year state tax return?
