Non resdient reutrn

I'm preparing several returns. Most all are NY state residents so that is the state that we chose to include with our software package. One person is a NJ resident and a NY nonresident. I'm going to prepare the NJ resident return by hand; however, my software won't let me access the NY nonresident forms. How do I resolve?

What software are you using? TurboTax will let you prepare a New York nonresident tax return as long as you have the state software for New York installed. If you are using other software, you will have to contact the other software company for assistance.

In TurboTax, if you selected New Jersey as the state of residence in the Personal Info section, as soon as you start a New York tax return it will assume that you are filing a nonresident return, and you will get a screen confirming that. Double-check the state of residence under Personal Info.
