New Payroll company for my employer made a mistake on the first 2 paychecks thru them.  So now I have wages and state taxes taken out for Virginia although I only worked in Tennessee.  How do I file the virginia wages and taxes?  Do I file a separate return or file on my existing one with Tennesse that I have income from another state.

You will need to file a Non-Resident Virginia return to get your taxes withheld back. Tennessee does not have an income tax, so you will not file a Tennessee return.

You will file a Federal and Non-Resident Virginia return only.
