Question

Not able to change amount in 1099-G for California State

Hi,

By mistake I entered "0" for the state tax I received from California in Form 1099-G. When I try to re-enter and put state as California, it says I have already entered the entry for that state. It does not allow me to edit my  "0" to the amount I received last year.

Can you help me how should I edit?

Also, I believe entering this amount should not impact my returns. Just want to confirm.

Try this.....In the box with $0 income double-click in that box and a Supporting Details window should open where you can enter the correct amount.  Or highlight the box and use Ctrl + I to open the Supporting Details window

But you might not need to enter a state refund so you can leave it as zero.

A State Tax Refund is taxable if you itemized deductions on that prior year's federal return and took a deduction for state income taxes instead of the sale tax.  You got a deduction benefit for it so now you have to include it as income. If you took the standard deduction it is not taxable and you don't need to report it.
