NY state: Not Eligible for Electronic

I lived in NJ and moved to NY last year, and I also worked in NJ and NY.

I tried to file State taxes for both. When I reviewed after I completed, it says I am not eligible for Electronic Filing due to "Part-year resident returns where income was received from New Jersey sources while a nonresident of New Jersey are not eligible for electronic filing."

but I can still print and file NJ return by mail.

Even though Turbotax lets me go through all filing process after I skipped that part, I stopped filing because I am not sure which part I need to print and where to send it.

If I complete filing, do they tell me which part I need to print and send by mail? and is it okay to continue filing process?

@4787452 Two Things.  (1)  Part Year Returns from NJ can normally be e-filed.  There are some e-filing issues with NJ right now and I believe you are caught in that loop.  You can print and mail the NJ return if it becomes necessary and you will be able to distinguish the Federal, NY and NJ returns in the printing process. (2) I suggest you use the information below to determine if you entered the state  returns in proper order. Entering your NY return last makes a difference in processing.

If that does not work you can e-file your Federal and NY returns and wait to submit the NJ until they have updated and finalized forms that might be contributing to your NJ error.

Below are steps for preparing State returns when you have multiple state:

If you were a resident of two different states during the tax year (for example, if you moved from one state to another), you'll normally file part-year returns in both states, assuming each state collects income tax and you had income in each state.

TurboTax handles part-year returns, but you need to make sure you've set up your personal information correctly for us to do so. We'll ask about where you lived in 2021 when you set up your personal information.

If you need to add this information after you've begun your return:

    1. Sign in to Turbo Tax and select Personal Info.
    2. Personal info summary screen will pop up.
    3. Question number 2 asks you the state(s) you lived in during 2021. Select your state of residence from a drop-down menu.
    4. You'll also be asked if you lived in another state in 2021. Answer Yes and a new section will appear asking for your previous state of residence. Select the other state you lived in.
    5. Fill out the date of when you moved to your current state.
    6. If the rest of your information is accurate, select the blue Continue button in the lower-right corner of the screen.

After you finish your federal return, you'll automatically move to the State section, where you'll see your part-year states listed. We suggest you prepare the return for your former state first, followed by the return for the state you currently live in.

Important: If you also see a nonresident state return in the State section, complete that return before you work on your part-year return(s) to ensure your tax credits are calculated correctly.
