NY State Tax Filing Pending - Should I File an Extension?

Hi everyone,

I filed my state tax return on April 14, 2024, at 10 PM, but it still hasn't been accepted. As far as I know, the efile should be received before 11:59 PM on April 15 by NY State. Should I file an extension given that my filing status is still pending? I'm a bit concerned about the timing and want to ensure everything is in order.

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The April 15 deadline is for the tax return to be filed, not for it to be accepted. You filed on April 14, so you are okay. You do not need an extension. The state can take as long as they want to accept your tax return. That doesn't change the fact that you filed on April 14.
