NY Use Tax for NJ Residents

Hi,

My question is specifically about Use Tax reporting in NY’s non resident tax return. I live in NJ and only go to NY for work. Obviously most of my purchases are in NJ and pay NJ sales tax. But do I need to report Use Tax on NY’s form? My understanding is since the purchases are used in NJ, no Use Tax for NY. Can anyone clarify? Thank you.

You are correct that you do not pay Use Tax to NY for items bought and used in NJ.

NY states:

Use tax applies if you buy tangible personal property and services outside the state and use it within New York State.
