NYC Taxes 1127

My daughter started a new job in NYC last year and she works for a NYC insurance agency. They withheld NYC taxes since she completed form 1127 when she started her job. Brief description of 1127:

If you work for the City of New York but live outside New York City and were hired on or after January 4, 1973, you must file Form NYC-1127 and pay the City an amount equal to the personal income tax you would owe if you lived in New York City.

My question: does she get back the NYC taxes she paid last year knowing they withheld NY state taxes as well?  Her W2 shows the NYC wages and taxes withheld under code 1127 in box 14 but none in box 18 or 19 or 20.

Thanks

No. The NYC taxes are just for people who work inside NYC and use their resources, water, streets, police, etc. The NY state taxes are for income earned in NY. The city and state are different tax entitles.

Boxes 18-20 are not relevant for this tax. The software needs you to properly code box 14. The income is in box 14 on the w2 for filing the 1127 tax return.

The software can prepare the return for mailing or you can file online with NYC directly.  City Worker Nonresident Tax Form NYC-1127
