Ohio Senior Citizen Credit

I inadvertently indicated that I had claimed the lump sum distribution credit when I filed my 2018 Ohio return using Turbo, resulting in denial of the Senior Citizen credit.  I amended my 2018 return using Turbo, but now Turbo will not allow me to claim the credit on my 2019 return, stating that I cannot claim the credit since I had previously claimed lump sum distribution.  How do I get Turbo to recognize my amended 2018 return?  If that is not possible, what is my workaround?   Am I forced to file without the credit and amend every year going forward?

Go back into your state return and select Edit to the right of Ohio.

Proceed through the screens until you see Take a look at Ohio credits and taxes.

Under Retirement credits, select Lump-sum retirement credit.

    Ohio credit

On the next screen, it will ask you if you have taken the credit before.  Since you amended your 2018 return, you will select no.

    Lump sum credit

If you are not able to see these screens, your workaround would be to set up a new user account and log in as if you were using TurboTax for the first time.

Since you have already amended your 2018 return to correct your input, you are able to proceed with 2019 indicating you have not taken the credit.  However, the program retains the information from the return your originally prepared and rolls that over.  It does not account for the changes in the amended return.
