I need help understanding why my entries from federal taxes were not accepted on Ohio taxes?  It (letter) states possible error could be from qualifying social security benefits or disability benefits.... as well as other reasons. None that I think involve my entries. They disallowed or adjusted my  federal deductions by $40,933.00. I have no idea where to look or who to ask? In reviewing my entries I cannot see a total equaling the entry.  They tell me I owe more than $2,000. The numbers or entries were rolled into state taxes after completing federal taxes by TT. After reviewing all entries,  TT found no errors.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

    Start with Ohio Schedule A, deductions, lines 11-39.   Which lines have amounts and what are those amounts?

    Does line 14 (social security) agree with line 6b of the federal form 1040?

    Line 34 (disability benefits) is a somewhat common error.  TurboTax does not automatically claim it.  It's a manual entry that you enter.  You are not allowed to deduct:
    ● Temporary wage continuation payments;
    ● Retirement benefits that converted from disability benefits upon reaching a minimum retirement age; OR
    ● Payments for temporary illnesses or injuries (such as sick pay by an employer or third party).
