Question

On form 8880 lines 1 & 2 have the exact same amount, $1,896. Have I entered something incorrectly?

    It depends, line 1 on  Form 8880 are contributions to a traditional IRA, Roth IRA or ABLE account. Line 2 are contribution to work retirement plans.

     

    Did you make contributions to an IRA and a work retirement plan (see W-2 box 12)? 

     

    Please note if you made contribution to a retirement plan at work then do not enter this in the IRA contribution section. All you need to do is enter your W-2. Delete the IRA contribution entry if necessary.
