Question

On Hawaii state tax, will I pay crypto tax? I'm a resident of Florida, but I worked in Hawaii for a year. but I still hold Florida residency and license

Hawaii is trying to tax my crypto gain. I hold residency in Florida and my state ID is Florida

I worked in Hawaii for a year, so I'm confused why I would pay crypto tax to them and not Florida

Did you live in Hawaii at all in 2021?  If not, you don't need to file a return there.

If you did live there for part of 2021, you will file a Part-Year Resident Hawaii return.

You will come to a page asking about 'Hawaii Subtractions'  where you can remove income that does not belong to Hawaii.

If you lived in Hawaii part of the year, they could consider part of your crypto gain as income you earned in Hawaii.
