Oregon has a special medical subtraction. Special Oregon medical subtraction. For tax year 2020, you or your spouse must be age 65 or older on December 31, 2020 to qualify for the subtraction. If you qualify, this is is automatically reported in your Oregon state  return.

Where does the number on Line 1, Form 40 come from?   Above line one is the following:  " You entered total medical expenses of $3257 on your Schedule OR-A".    Yet the number on Line 1 is $443.

When an accountant did my taxes last year, the number on Line1 was the amount of expenses - shouldn't it be $3257 on this form this year?

    Thanks

You should be allowed to deduct all of your unreimbursed medical expenses up to $3,600 (joint return) or $1,800 (single return) on your Oregon return if you are 65 years old or over.
