Oregon Tax Filing now under manual review

In 16 years of filing with my wife, we have always received our refunds within 2 weeks. Our tax filings are very simple and we have had no significant changes for 2015. Why am I being told that our Oregon filing is being "manually reviewed" and could take 12 weeks to review. It has already been 8 weeks at this point. Did something not transmit properly via Turbo Tax?

Generally, a certain number of tax returns are selected at random for review.  Rather than being processed electronically, they are reviewed by an employee and processed manually.  If you are due a refund, the manual review process takes longer so it will be delayed a bit.  Other than the delay, there is no reason to be concerned.

On checking in with Oregon about where my refund is, I am under manual review as well, but haven't received any correspondence to indicate the state might need more information from me. I'm a single parent claiming my children each year as head of household, my last several years worth of returns have been the same. A little bit of digging reports that a lot of Oregon residents with refunds due to them are under the same nondescript "Manual Review". I found one report that blamed automated tax filing fraud as a potential cause to the delay, but it's unconfirmed whether that's the case or not. I filed my taxes on 1/27/16 and was notified 48 hours later that Oregon had accepted my return. I'm furious, but there is nothing to do but wait I suppose.

I filed my Oregon State taxes through Turbo Tax in Jan. 28th.  I received a request through the mail on April 1st, for a copy of my W-2 forms.  I sent those back in the very next day.  I received my tax refund on May 10th, 2018.

I hope that next year is not as troublesome!

This has happened to me again this yer.  It took months to get my last refund.  Very annoying.

I’m under manual review, disappointing that may have to wait. I hope I don’t screw up Oregon portion as it brought up some sheet and I signed it but didn’t fill In anything looked like it was just asking for signature, ugh.

According to this link, Oregon will follow federal guidelines and the won’t be issuing personal income tax refunds until after February 15.

Does the manual review thing have anything to do with them not issuing refunds until after February 15? I think it's a separate issue....

just found out i'm also under manual review. What i'm most annoyed about is paying to efile my state return and having to wait however long to be manually processed.... that doesn't seem right to me.

I was manually reviewed last year and never got my returns, I'm used to them going to student debt tho. This year I just checked and AGAIN manually reviewed. Never whe. I went to H&R OR liberty did I and I do nothing different and claim one.i even uploaded tax information from. The link... 😏 think I'm done with turbo... so I hear everyone this year talking about there refunds being 5x higher than mine. I'm single mom and I did t break 1g

This is the second time in three years I’ve had "manual review” of my state return. It’s never happened previously and would it would be helpful to know what’s being flagged so I can correct in the future.  -JQ

I just today got another update for my tax software (not turbotax) for OR state return.

perhaps there was some confusion about some line items.

The tax software outfits no longer detail what they've been fixing.

Suggestion: don't file early; wait for the bugs to be worked out.

My State refund is also under manual review, I got my federal a week ago and I file electronically on February 23. I have two different refund amounts on my transcripts.  The amounts I first got we're not corrected as I had realized I forgot to add my second W-2. So now the amount Federal refunded me is more than I think it should be, but it was accepted and deposited. I called IRS several times, spoke to someone about my issue and was told there wasn't anything that I could do, or they could do. So each time I use the where's my refund tool, I have to use the first amount I got or else it tells me they have no record matching my info. Federal has deposited my refund. I normally would have thought I should have filed a amended return but was told only to do so if the IRS instructed me to do so. I did4go back and enter my other W-2, and I think that's why there are two different amounts.

@Banditthedog1Question: What exactly did you do when you say: "I did go back and enter my other W-2, and I think that's why there are two different amounts." Where did  you enter the second W-2 if you had already filed with only the first W-2 and did not amend your return?

You must wait for the state to finish it's review.  If they have questions or a correction needs to be made they will contact you (letter) with instructions.  I recommend you don't make any changes to any returns until the originals have been processed.
