Question

Paying CA SDI as a nonresident

I work remotely in a different state for a company based in California. My employer took out CA sdi payments from my income. I am filing taxes in California as a nonresident (I did not enter or leave the state of California in the previous year). Can I file a deduction or credit for the sdi payments on my California taxes? If so, how?

You would need to speak with your employer to get a refund, if you are eligible for a refund. about having them stop taking it out.  However, since they took CA SDI out you may potentially be covered by the state plan.

Since this was from a single employer you cannot claim it as a credit, it will have to be done through your employer.
