Please help! I am a non resident of CA, and my employer took out $465 in State of CA Taxes

Please help!  I am a non-resident of California.  I used to live in California, and moved to Florida, which has no state income taxes.  I continued working for the same employer, which continued to take out California state taxes from my income.  I filed a form with my employer, requesting that no funds are taken out for the state of California, but by then, my employer had taken $465 California state taxes .  When I use Turbo Tax's State tax software for California as a non-resident, I only see a State refund of $110.  I don't understand why I do not get back my entire $465.  Thank you!

I think I found the spot.  Turbo Tax asked how much of the money did I earn in California, and it had a number in there.  When I changed it to the correct number, zero, then it now shows I am to receive all of the $465 back.  Thank you!!!!

It sounds as if California is not allocating your income properly, to only tax that income sourced inCalifornia.

First, please check My Info in the Federal return and be sure your address is listed as your Florida address, Florida is selected in the dropdown box for resident state, and the box is checked for Made money in another state

Then go to the States section and click on the delete trashcan icon for California

Next, add California back and be sure it is creating a Non-Resident return

It will show your federal income and ask you to allocate what is sourced in California

You will not need to file a return in Florida, since it is one of the states with no individual income tax

This should correct the refund amount of the incorrect withholding.

If this does not completely solve the problem, please let us know more details, so we may better assist you.
