Under monthly rent do I put total rent my roommates and I pay, or how much I individually pay monthly?

It depends on who is contracted to pay the rent.

Per the State of Michigan, if two or more individuals are contracted to pay rent and occupy the home (roommates), they may each file a homestead property tax credit for their prorated share of the rent paid and total household resources.

If only one adult is contracted to pay rent, only that individual may file a homestead property tax credit. The individual claiming the credit must include any gifts of cash or expenses paid on his/her behalf. This includes contributions from others living in the home used to pay household expenses (rent, taxes, utilities, etc.).

For more information, please see How do single adults sharing a home compute their homestead property tax credit?
