Hi, I was j-1 student. I am a foreigner.  I am living another country so I am non-resident. When I fill the form I fill non-resident. But,  somebody says that  form 1040 is for residence people and I should have fill form1040-NR. Is this correct? Is this a problem for me to fill out the form 1040? If this is a problem, how can I solve it?

Thank you:)

@melihgnl , there is not enough information to answer with any certainty -- please tell more about when you entered USA, with what visa , was this the first time entry in to  USA, when did you leave the  USA, which country are you from , what income did you have for 2022,  did you have work permit  & SSN or what ?

Generally , though a Non-Resident Alien needs to file return on form 1040-NR ( not supported by TurboTax - you could try SprinTax, your school foreign students office or similar ) and if you have already filed a form 1040 and  you were NOT a Resident for Tax purposes , then you would have to file an amended return on form 1040-NR.

I will circle back once I hear from you -- yes ?
