Does spending the summer in our vacation home in NC make us a part time resident?  Our primary residence is in FL.

No...it does not require you for file a "Part-Year" tax return in NC.

Part-Year tax returns are only if you actually move your primary home to a differnt state.  (no such thing as "part-time")

Generally, most states will consider you a resident, by default, if you spend more than 183 days/nights in that state, but a summer, with a few other weeks wouldn't force that,.  Just make sure you don't go over the day/night limit in NC...make sure you only have FL Driver's Licences and car registrations, and vote only in FL.

IF you actually take on a summer job in NC while there, or if you rent out your NC vac. home to others when you're not there.....then you'd file a Non-resident tax return for that income..but not much else.
