Retired from military in 2023, changed from TX to VA resident

I retired 28 Feb 2023 from the military as a TX resident, then became a VA resident 1 March. My pay for Jan and Feb was not taxed (TX) but TurboTax/VA says I'm a resident in 2023 and have to pay taxes on the Jan and Feb income. How do I fix this using Turbo tax?

Your residency information in the Personal Info section may not be filled out correctly.

TurboTax handles part-year returns, but you need to make sure you've set up your personal information correctly for us to do so. We'll ask about where you lived in 2023 when you set up your personal information.

If you need to add this information after you've begun your return:

    1. Sign in to TurboTax and select My Info.
    2. A Your personal info screen appears.
    3. Question number 2 asks you the state(s) you lived in during 2023. Select your state of residence from a dropdown menu (Virginia)
    4. You'll also be asked if you lived in another state in 2023. Answer Yes and a new section will appear asking for your previous state of residence. Select the other state you lived in (Texas).
    5. Fill out the date of when you moved to your current state (Virginia).
    6. If the rest of your information is accurate, select Continue.

After you finish entering your federal return info, you'll automatically move to the State Taxes section, where you'll see your part-year states listed. We suggest you prepare the return for your former state first, followed by the return for the state you currently live in.

Thank you for the reply. Helpful, however we did not move to Virgina, we lived in VA the entire year 2023. Texas was my residence for the first two months of 2023 while I was on active duty (last 25+ yrs)...my retirement on 28 Feb made me a Virigina resident starting 1 March and we lived in VA the rest of the year. Do I still do as you suggest and say I "lived" in TX in Jan/Feb and "moved" to VA in March? My 2011 & 2022 taxes show I lived in VA.

You were a resident of Virginia at the end of the year, so you would indicate that you live in Virginia. Since your home of record was Texas evidently, you would say your previous state of residence was Texas and enter the date you moved to Virginia when asked for the date you became a resident of your new state.
