I am self employed in Texas. I received 1099's for from companies with headquarters in Louisiana, Alabama and Indiana, for work in Louisiana and Texas. Do I file state returns for those states?

States tax people based on where they live and where they work. If you are a Texas resident who worked in Louisiana and Texas, then you only have to file a nonresident Louisiana tax return because Texas has no income tax.

A payer’s address doesn’t matter. You don’t have to file for Alabama or Indiana taxes if you never worked in those states.

For Louisiana, report and pay state tax on the amount of income you earned there.
