Should deductions that apply to Ky state be carried over from federal?

Why aren’t all deductions applicable to state being brought over from federal deductions?

    Most of the info that carries over from your Federal return to your Kentucky State return is valid; however, you need to go through the Kentucky interview regardless.

     

    There may be items that are taxable on your Federal return that aren't taxable in KY (pensions, for example) and vice versa.  KY eliminated some itemized deductions a few years ago that may be included on your Federal Schedule A but missing on your state return. 

     

    Go through the questions carefully to see what KY exceptions may apply to your situation.
