Should working for the University of Texas count as a state or local government?

I received a message that Turbo Tax needs more information about Box 12. Does working for the UT system counts as "state or local government" in this context?

No, but if you have a retirement account through UT, there is an update to that section being applied right now in TurboTax. On January 8, 2024, the IRS released a notice describing many changes required to implement the Secure Act 2.0. Section 601 of the Secure Act 2.0 refers specifically to Simple and SEP Roth IRAs. Box 12 is one of the areas that is affected by these changes.

Check back later and remember, the IRS does not start accepting returns until Jan 29.
