Social Security Income is exempted for the State of Illinois

I purchased the Intuit Deluxe version and apparently you didn't include the state for 2019. I had to purchase the state for a total of $47.80 to complete the 1040 for my state of Illinois. I downloaded the state software after they took my money.  Intuit completed my Illinois state taxes and it said I owed $237 to the state.  I am on social security and I am exempted for paying taxes in the state of Illinois.  Your Intuit state tax software falsely calculated the end results.  This software is not working properly for my state and I want a refund immediately.   Please respond ASAP.  Thank you in advance.

I agree that Illinois does not tax Social Security.  I would like you to double check the way that you posted the Social Security.  It would have been posted to:

    1. Wages and Income
    2. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
    3. Select Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)
    4. It should be entered on the next screen
    5. If it is not, please enter it now.

If it was not posted you will have to find where it was posted in error.

I expect it may be in the IRA section.

Also the Desktop programs Deluxe and above include a free state program download.  But there are 2 versions of Deluxe, Deluxe with a free state and Deluxe without state for states without an income tax.  What did your purchase or box say?  You needed to buy the one that said...Federal+Efile+State.

Then you need to update the program frequently.  Was any of your SS taxable on federal 1040 line 5b?  If not there was nothing to deduct on the state return.  Do you have other income?  If you only get SS you do not have to file any returns.
