State income tax for New Hampshire

I live in Maine but work in New Hampshire.    I checked that I made income in NH .

New Hampshire does not have Income Tax for normal income.

Why does Turbo Tax want me to buy a NH state Income Tax in order to complete my taxes.

Yes, TurboTax is attempting to generate a non-resident NH return because you indicated you earned money in another state. Since NH does not tax wages, you need to go back to the "My Info" section and in the "Other State Income" topic select that you did not earn money in another state.  This will turn off the non-resident return.

Note: the reason the option is available is to cover for any interest/dividends earned in NH.

Did you enter wages and income tax withheld for NH?  When you entered your W2, which state is in box 15 of your W2?  If it says NH what is in box 17?

It could be that your W2 shows that you had taxes withheld (or you entered it as so) for the state of NH.  If so, TurboTax would be prompting you to file so you could get a refund of your taxes withheld.

Box 15  has  ME for Maine

Box 17 shows the amount  of money paid out to Maine.

Since NH has no income tax on normal income (wages),  we did not have any money withheld for NH.

Now the Turbo Tax wants me to purchase a NH state income tax for $40 in order to complete may state income taxes!   This makes no sense !
