State Payroll Withholding Tax

I'm a military spouse living and working in Virgina. Our home of residency is Alabama. My employer is refusing to withhold Alabama taxes from my check. They told me to file them myself quarterly. Is there anything I can legally do about this?

Not really. It's a lot of work to set up employee withholding payments to every state in the Union, as you can imagine.

You can make these payments online at this Alabama web page.

Rather than fighting with your employer, just go ahead and do it yourself.

How much should you pay in estimated taxes? If you filed an Alabama return last year, look at the amount of tax you owed and divide it by four and make one payment per quarter.
