State returns

I graduated in December 2018 with my Masters and move in February to a different state to start my first job. I didn't work between the time I graduated and starting my new job. I visited with family and friends but I had an apartment lease through January.  Do I need to file returns in both states?

If you had zero 2019 income in the "old" state, there is no need to file a tax return there.  Just file a part-year resident return in the "new" state.
