State returns required for estate income tax executor lives in state different from decedent
Background:
I'm preparing an estate income tax return for 2022. The decedent passed in August 2021 and lived in GA. The beneficiaries live in SC and NC. Executor (also one of the beneficiaries) lives in NC. The estate has rental property (taxable loss in 2022). TT is telling me to prep 2 state returns (one for GA where the decedent was a resident; one for NC where executor is a resident).
Questions:
1 - Is TT Right that I need to prep a NC return? Why would I need to prepare a NC state return? all income (loss) was generated in GA. No income is being distributed to beneficiaries for 2022. Idk why an NC return would need to be prepared since the estate is in GA where the decedent lived and is where the rental property is located. I wouldn't think tax would be due in 2 states since all income (showing a taxable loss) was generated in GA, not NC.
2 - If it is required, how do I go about completing? TT states that it does not support returns for NC. It gives me a link to state "Department of Revenue" but the link just takes me to the TT Support page...
