Hi my name is Lee

I am trying to input the Tax Return by using Turbo Tax.

But I have a problem about state tax session, here are brief summary for my situation.

- Moved from NY to CA last July 1st, 2019

- I got two W-2 form from my company

- Item #16: State Wages, Tips, etc showed as

  NY $169102.42

  CA $107687.40

- My total wages for last year is $169102.42

I wonder how should I input the NY State wages and CA State wages, if I use the numbers of #16, the total wages would reach to $276789.82 this is far from my total wages.

I figured out why CA wages became $107687.40, cause it including Relocation benefit ($31032.72), but I can't understand why the NY state wages are $169k, instead of $61415.02 (169102.02-107687.40). If I use the number of $169K for NY state wages, then I owe really huge money to NY.

I contacted my company's payroll team, but just said W-2 is correct and I need to contact Turbo Tax team how to handle it.

New York has a rule that the amount in box 16 of your W-2 must be the same as the amount in box 1. Any adjustments are made on the tax return. So the payroll department is right that the W-2 is correct. Enter it as-is in TurboTax. The TurboTax interview for New York will ask you how much of the income was actually earned in New York.
