State tax prep fee

I've been using TurboTax Deluxe desktop for years and never had to pay a fee to prepare my state taxes. In the 2024 edition that I'm using now it's asking for $40 to prepare my state taxes. Is this something new?

I know that in the past I had to pay a fee to e-file my state tax return but there was never a fee to prepare it.

Disregard my post. I just realized that I purchased the Federal Only edition.

No, there is not a fee for a state tax return using the desktop editions when using the free state program download with the Deluxe or higher editions.

There is an e-file fee for a state tax return of $25 which can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

You probably click on the Refund Processing Fee for having the TurboTax fees paid from the federal tax refund by mistake. Go back to the beginning of the File section and go through the section again making sure you do not select to pay with the federal tax refund.
