I accidentally checked the box saying we had no health insurance and therefore incurred a penalty. I need to correct that but cannot get into the return to do it because it shows it ready to file.

Ready to File or Ready to Mail? If it is ready to file, you can go back into the state return and select the option to go over the state return again and change your answers to the health insurance questions. If it says ready to mail, but you have not mailed it yet, you can unlock your return using the steps below.

If you printed your taxes to mail them in and went all the way through the File section, when you sign in to TurboTax Online, the Way to go! You filed your 2019 taxes you won't see a way to make changes to your return. As long as you haven't already mailed your 2019 paper return, you can unlock your return to make the needed changes.

If you already mailed your return, you will need to file an amended return.

To unlock the return,

In TurboTax Online, sign in to your account.
Select Tax Home on the left menu.
Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.
Select 2019, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right area).
Click on State, left menu, and go back through your state return and make your changes.
