State Taxes

I am helping my daughter with taxes. We live in Mi and she goes to school in Ca. Her school gave her a W2 for her "tuition reduction" work study. When she does her taxes, I believe she includes this with her Mi State return, and will have to pay income tax on it. I am hoping she does not have to file a Ca state return also? Does she?

She would have to pay California nonresident tax if her total gross income was more than $19,310 or her California adjusted gross income was more than $15,448 (if single, under 65 and no dependents).

MI will give her a credit, or partial credit, for any tax she has to pay to CA.
