State taxes

I moved from WA to CA, reported 2023 taxes and got accepted and refund Federal and CA taxes.

I got a W2 from the company in WA later when I worked in Jan 2023, I amended, Turbo TAX showed I need to pay CA state tax. Is it right? I think, CA state tax should be for only I earned in CA.

No, W-2 income while working and living in WA should not be taxable on CA return. It is not a CA source income.

As a part-year resident, you pay tax on:

    • All worldwide income received while a California resident
    • Income from California sources while you were a nonresident

On CA return on the screen Did you earn all of your income in California?

Enter only the amount of wages earned while living and working in CA.

How do I allocate (split) income for a part-year state return?
