There are no issues with state returns that would prevent you from e-filing your federal return.  What, exactly, does TurboTax (TT) tell you is preventing  you from e-filing?

What state do you live in? I know of no state that has an automatic exemption from filing, for retirees.  Many exempt certain retirement income or have retirement credits.  You need to be sure you meet the criteria before not filing a state return.

Once you have entered all of your tax information proceed to the "Review & File" section of TurboTax to run an error check and the proceed with filing your taxes. In the filing step you will be given the option for electronic filing and filing by mail.
