Hello,

I am trying to e-file my business state return. I am not able to because I only have a SOS number and not a CA 7 digit corp number. I really would like to e-file. Can you please help me.

According to the CA Secretary of State website, if you have a Corporation in CA, you should have received that when you registered your corporation in CA. If you did not register your corporation in CA, or changed to be taxed as a Corporation during the tax year, you need to contact the SOS and register it.

"California corporations, however, receive seven-digit corporation numbers that are assigned to them by the Secretary of State or the Franchise Tax Board. LLCs receive a corporate number composed of 12 digits. These can then be used to apply for EINs. For most states, though, a corporate number is the equivalent of an EIN."
