Question

Tax Year Prior to 2020: I live in Texas but I have to file a NM State Return because of 5 Royalty 1099s . The NM State return is getting hosed up because TT is not bringing over the State WH tax

I can't get past this and I seem to be stuck in that TT wants me to correct the NM return before I can go further. I've already paid for filing both returns and I would E-file the federal and do the New Mexico one by mail, but Turbo Tax is preventing boh returns to be filed.

So, you have a 1099 Misc withholding from NM? What state are you using as a non residence? Check to make sure that NM is set to non residence status.

I live in Texas. I have never lived in New Mexico, but I inherited these New Mexico oil wells back in 2016. I have used TT for many many years now, including the last two years after I took over these wells. This is the first time I have ran into this problem. On the New Mexico questions, it is clearly stated that I am a non-resident, but you have to claim any Royalties from you derive from their state. TT is giving a negative number on the New Mexico PIT-1 regarding the withholding taxes collected. It makes no sense. I believe this is a software glitch as opposed to a tax problem.

The PIT-1 is working. Please make sure you are not using Internet Explorer. You may need to clear your cookies and cache. Something sounds stuck. You may even need to log in from a different device.
