Question

Telehealth and in active duty military

I am a resident of Florida. As active duty military, I am assigned to a base in Virginia. I physically live and rent a home in Virginia.
My military pay shows Florida as state of residence and therefore I pay no state tax on that income.

I also do contracting telehealth work from my house in Virginia. Do I pay state tax in VA or am I exempt because I would be performing this same work in FL if not for the required active duty military move? My employers for this job are based in Indiana.

You would be required to file nonresident Virginia tax return to report the non-active duty pay from the telehealth because you performed the work in Virginia.  Unfortunately, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) only exempts the active duty pay in a nonresident state.
