Hello, I was working in NJ but living in NY and that's causing an issue with my taxes. It won't let me submit because "TP should not be greater than the tax imposed by another state." I'm not sure where to find any of the numbers to fix this. Can someone help?

To revisit Taxes paid to another state on your NY return:

  1. Open your New York return, go to the screen “Take a look at New York credits and taxes”
  2. Select Taxes Paid to Another State under Credit for Taxes Paid
  3. On “Other State Tax Credit Summary,” Edit NJ
  4. Verify the amounts on “Income Taxed By New Jersey.”

To ensure accurate calculations, always complete the nonresident return first when filing multiple state returns.

How do I file a nonresident state return?
