TT mistakenly trying to file Michigan Return but does not apply to me. Michigan return only applies to my son.

I file a return in my home state of Wisconsin as a resident, and in Minnesota as a non-resident because I work there.  My son goes to college in Michigan and works part-time at school, but maintains his permanent residence as Wisconsin.

When I complete my return, TT correctly has WI and MN returns identified, but it is trying to complete a non-resident Michigan return as well.  However, I have no earnings from MI nor do I live there.

I tried deleting the MI return but I cannot fully delete the all forms.

How do I remove Michigan from my filing?

In the TurboTax CD/Download you can clear (delete) the info in your state return:

  1. Open your return in TurboTax.
  2. Switch to Forms Mode by clicking the Forms icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
  3. From the File menu, choose Remove State Return.

Tip: Despite the name, this command doesn't remove the state program, just the info in your state return.

  • Select the state return you want to delete, and then click Remove. Click Yes to confirm.
  • To start your state return from the beginning, click the Step-by-Step icon in the upper right corner, and then click the State Taxes tab.
